Meet the Staff



        

CHIEF ROB PETROVICH
Chief Robert Petrovich was sworn in as Cape Coral’s Chief of Police on October 10th, 2006.  He has been with the Cape Coral Police Department for more than 22 years, working his way up the ranks from a patrol and undercover officer to Deputy Chief.  Prior to working in Cape Coral, Chief Petrovich worked in Law Enforcement as a Corrections Officer in New York State.  He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barry University, an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Edison Community College, and he graduated from the FBI National Academy. 
 

DEPUTY CHIEF B.A. (JAY) MURPHY

As the Deputy Chief of Police, Chief Jay Murphy oversees the agency’s daily operations.  He holds a Bachelor of Public Administration from Eckerd College and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staffing and Command, the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute, and the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Chief Executive Seminar. He is also a certified Team Leader and Assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
 
 

ASSISTANT CHIEF BART CONNELLY
Assistant Chief Bart Connelly is the commander of the Administrative Services Bureau, which includes Records, Technology Services, Budget Management, and Crime Analysis. He holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice from Edison College, a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Barry University, and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Senior Leadership Program and is a Certified Assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
 
 

ASSISTANT CHIEF TODD EVERLY
Assistant Chief Todd Everly commands the Field Services Division and is responsible for the Three District Bureaus and District Resource Coordinators.  He holds an associate of science degree in Criminal Justice from Edison College, a bachelor of science in Liberal Studies from Barry University, and a master of science in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.  Assistant Chief Everly is also a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University, the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute and the Executive Leadership Program from the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute.
 
 

ASSISTANT CHIEF VINCE KELLY
Assistant Chief Vince Kelly is the commander of the Special Services Bureau, which includes Traffic Services, K-9, Marine Patrol, S.W.A.T., Mounted Patrol, and the Dive Team. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Edison College, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Barry University, and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. He has received extensive training in a number of professional law enforcement programs.
 
 

CAPTAIN MICHAEL MAHER
Captain Michael Maher commands the Professional Standards Bureau, which includes Internal Affairs, Accreditation, Media Relations, Personnel, and Training. He earned an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice from Edison College, a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Barry University, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration/Criminal Justice from City University. During his career, Captain Maher has also attended a number of professional development schools.
 
 

CAPTAIN CRAIG DURHAM
Captain Craig Durham commands the Community Services Bureau, which includes Youth Services, School Resource Officers, Victim Assistance, and Family Services. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration at Michigan State University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration at Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
 
 

CAPTAIN TIMOTHY RIVERS

Captain Timothy Rivers is the Central Bureau commander and is responsible for Central District Patrol and District Resource Coordinators.  He holds a bachelor of science in Law Enforcement Administration from Kent State University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.  He is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University.

 
 


CAPTAIN JOHN MASHIA

Captain John Mahshie is the captain over the Special Operations Bureau.  He’s in charge of the Motorcycle Traffic Officers, Traffic Homicide Investigators, Aggressive Driving Unit, DUI Unit, Street Crimes Unit, SWAT Team.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Florida State University, a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University.  He also attended the Southern Police Institute 39 Command Officer Development Course.

 
 


CAPTAIN STEVE FURDERER

Captain Steve Furderer is the North District Services Bureau commander responsible for the North District Patrol and District Resource Coordinators.  He has an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Edison Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University.

 
 


CAPTAIN DOUG CHRISTIANSEN

Captain Doug Christiansen is the Captain of the Investigative Services Bureau.  He supervises the Investigative units, including the Forensic Unit, Property and Evidence, and Victim Assistance.  He has a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement Administration.

 
 


CAPTAIN DAVID NEWLAN

Captain David Newlan is the South District Services Bureau commander responsible for South District Patrol and District Resource Coordinators.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University and a master’s degree of science with a major in Human Resources Development and Administration from Barry University.  He is also a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University.

 
 


COMMANDER PAULA CARTER
Commander Paula Carter is the police department's Communications Manager. She commands the department's Communications Center, where citizens' calls for emergency and non-emergency service are received, police and fire calls are dispatched, communications with other law enforcement agencies are maintained, local and national license tag and persons checks are conducted, and a variety of other critical activities take place. Commander Carter is a recognized expert in the police communications field and a certified instructor in a number of communications-related disciplines. She is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management degree program at Jacksonville State University.
