Network & Telecommunications

Managed by Fidel Deforte, this division is responsible for maintaining the extensive network & telecom infrastructure within the City. This involves developing & supporting the local area (LAN) & wide area (WAN) networks and the various elements of the telephony infrastructure. Desktop support services are provided to all City Departments & also to the City’s Municipal Charter School System. Support is provided for all the servers within the City and the City’s electronic mail system. Key accomplishments in FY 2006 include upgrading the laptop computers used in the field by building inspectors to use broadband wireless cards, procuring and installing the IT infrastructure required for the Christa McAuliffe Elementary and Oasis Middle schools, and providing increased bandwidth to all Fire stations and the SW RO plant. In FY 2007 plans include installing the first phase of a special broadband Public Safety wireless system. This phase will provide high speed communication to the new police Mobile Command Center (MCC) vehicle and the three fire stations nearest City Hall. Two subsequent phases will provide coverage across the entire City. The network infrastructure will also be upgraded for improved security, capacity and high availability.
