Dear Citizens and Friends,
Thank you for visiting the Web Site of the City of Cape Coral's City Auditor’s Office.
This site reflects the City Auditor's efforts to communicate with the citizens of Cape Coral and internal auditing practitioners around the world. We will provide on-line users with current information on our accomplishments, sources of industry literature that guide our day-to-day operations and a way for you to communicate with us. The City Auditor is appointed by and reports directly to the Mayor and City Council.
Audit Office Mission And Operations
It is our office’s mission "to provide an independent appraisal function within the City." To accomplish this, the City's operations are divided into audits based on our assessment of the risks involved with those operations. Next, a three-year strategic audit plan is developed to schedule a time frame for the audits, which includes follow-up on audits performed in prior years. Besides our coverage of the City's departments, audit hours are made available for special assignments requested by the Mayor and Council as well as City Administration or identified by the City Auditor.
Objectives
Our audits involve a systematic review of an area's activities and the development of objectives to access performance and identify opportunities for improvements in their effectiveness and efficiency. Our audits are conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards. Those standards require that we plan and perform the audit to afford a reasonable basis for our judgments and conclusions regarding the organization, program, activity, or function under audit. An audit also includes assessments of applicable internal controls and compliance with requirements of laws and regulations when necessary to satisfy the audit objectives.
